The French MoD procurement agency DGA (Direction Générale de l’Armement) has ordered a fourth HARFANG MALE (Moyenne Altitude Longue Endurance) unmanned system to EADS along a ground command and control station for EUR33.7 Million. This new reconnaissance and surveillance system will be operated from the summer by the French Air Force Adour Squadron based at Cognac.

At International Armoured Vehicles 2010 event to be held from February 01 to 05 in London, Oshkosh Defense will be featuring the M-ATV (MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle) and SandCat highly protected vehicles.

The M-ATV was designed to provide exceptional protection and superior mobility for operations on rugged, mountainous terrain and unimproved road networks.

The SandCat is a protected, multi-role vehicle with a modular armor system that can be customized to meet the payload needs and threat levels of varying operations, including military, law enforcement, homeland security, peacekeeping and disaster aid.

At Australian PACIFIC 2010 event, Thales Nederland is demonstrating is I-Mast 100 integrated mast system for naval vessels.

I-Mast 100 is a central mast structure that houses all of a ship’s radar and optronic sensors, Identification Friend-or-Foe (IFF), electronic warfare antennas, communication antennas including SATCOMs, and all associated cabinets and peripherals.

The advantages of this sensor concept are numerous: improved operational performance, higher operational availability, reduced shipbuilding time, reduced maintenance requirements and substantial savings in below-deck space claim the company.

The larger I-Mast 400 is currently being built for installation on the first Royal Dutch Navy Holland class patrol vessel at the end of 2010.

Swedish company SAAB Dynamics has signed a MSEK260 Million contract for further deliveries of the RBS 70 ground based air defence system to the Finnish Army.

First deliveries are scheduled for 2011.

For more than NOK38 Million, Norwegian company Kongsberg Maritime Simulation & Training will supply ship bridge simulation systems to upgrade Royal Australian Navy (RAN) training centre, located at HMAS Watson in Sydney. The contract includes the upgrade of RAN’s existing simulators.

Bulgarian Ministries of Finance and Interior has ordered two AgustaWestland AW109 Power light twin helicopters to meet the latest helicopter requirement for the Bulgarian Border Police.

The fleet will be fitted with a state-of-the-art avionics and mission-dedicated equipment also comprising NVG compatible cockpit, moving map, weather radar, FLIR, digital video downlink and video recorder, mission console, searchlight, emergency floats, rescue hoist and external loudspeaker.

As part of a political commitment with NATO, Portugal is reinforcing its military contribution in Afghanistan with the send this month of a QRF (Quick Reaction Force) composed by a Portuguese Army (Exército Português) Commando´s Company (Companhia de Comandos), a support unit and the high staff for a total of 150 elements. A Portuguese Air Force (Força Aérea Portuguesa-FAP) TACP (Tactical Air Control Party) team with 12 elements will form also part of the Portuguese presence. The FAP will deploy for the first time two of the three AM General LLC M1165A1 w/B3 armoured vehicles received in June 2009.

However a fleet of 23 US Army M1151A1 w/AC31 KIT HMMWV (High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle) armoured vehicles with increased protection is being provided free for one year (with the possibility to be extended) by the US DoD to fit the Commando´s Company and to operate along 19 Portuguese Army M1151A1 w/B1 and up-armoured M1025A2 APK vehicles.

A fleet of new 4×4 armoured vehicles is scheduled to be acquired as part of the VTLB (Viatura Táctica Ligeira com Blindagem) programme by the Ministry of Defence procurement agency DGAIED (Direcção Geral de Armamento e Infra-Estruturas de Defesa). This programme calls for the procurement of 160 vehicles to be operated by the army, navy and air force.
