SELEX Communications has been awarded an initial development contract by SAAB AB to equip the Gripen NG (Next Generation) multi-role combat aircraft with an IFF (Identification Friend-or-Foe) system. This initial contract will be followed by production orders once the aircraft enters production.

The company is to develop a solution consisting of transponder, interrogator, antenna sub-system and a system simulator, delivering the latest IFF operating capabilities to identify both military (Mode 5) and civil aircraft (Mode S).

SAAB has received an order worth approximately SEK 600 Million from FMV (Försvarets Materiel Verk) Swedish defence material administration for system maintenance of the Swedish Air Force JAS 39A/B/C/D Gripen combat aircraft.

The Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN/Koninklijke Marine) HrMs Karel Doorman 27,800 Tonnes Joint Support Ship (JSS) ordered by the Dutch MoD DMO (Defence Materiel Organisation/ Defensie Materieel Organisatie) to Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) will have the Thales Nederland I-Mast 400 announced the company owned by the French Thales Group.

The I-Mast solution has also been selected for the four Holland Class ocean patrol vessels ordered by the DMO to DSNS.

The I-Mast 400 for the JSS will be built by the RNLN in Den Helder, the subsystems will be built in and tested at the Thales plant in Hengelo and delivered to DSNS in 2014. The Joint Support Ship will be handed over to the Royal Netherlands Navy in 2014 to be fully operational a year later.

SELEX Galileo SpA has been awarded two contracts for its Precision Approach Radar 2090 CF (PAR) worth around 31 Million Euros.

The first contract was assigned by TELEDIFE (Direzione Generale delle Telecomunicazioni dell’Informatica e delle Tecnologie Avanzate) on behalf of the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare) for the supply of a single PAR 2090 CF to be installed in a fixed configuration on the Galatina air base near Lecce city.

The second contract, obtained under an international bid, will see the supply of five units of PAR 2090 CF surveillance systems to the Swiss Air Force through the prime contractor EADS Defence & Security.

BAE Systems Global Combat Systems has been awarded a £135 Million ($200 Million) contract by Norwegian FLO (Forsvarets Logistikk Organisasjon) and Swedish FMV (Försvarets Materiel Verk) procurement agencies to start the production of 48 BAE Systems Bofors AB FH77 BW L52 ARCHER 155mm self-propelled artillery gun systems. The contract covers the delivery of 24 gun systems and 24 truck based wheeled sheltered ammunition ressuply systems to each customer. In 2010, the manufacturer will deliver 2 pre-serial guns and 6 in 2011. Full rate production will be reached in 2012 and final deliveries are scheduled for 2013.

The weapon system ordered to fit Norwegian and Swedish armies is based on a modified Volvo AB A30E 6×6 commercial articulated truck which is integrated with the FH77 B05 L52 155mm cannon and armed with a Kongsberg Protech Systems M151A2 Protector remotely operated weapon station in the top of the protected cabin. The gun is able to fire the BAE Systems Bofors AB/Nexter Munitions BONUS sensor-fuzed artillery shell and Raytheon Missile Systems XM982 EXCALIBUR precision guided long range 155mm projectile.

ARCHER will be integrated with the SAAB Microwave Systems AB ARTHUR Mod C (ARTillery Hunting Radar) weapon locating radar operated by both countries.

The ARCHER system will be displayed at Eurosatory 2010 event to be held in Paris from June 14 to 18.

DRS Tactical Systems Inc (part of Italian industrial conglomerate Finmeccanica SpA) expect thousands of orders of it new lightweight and ruggedized military computer called MRT (Military Rugged Tablet).

The MRT feature a military grade aluminium case with INTEL 1.2 GHz dual core processor and a 10 inch XGA or SVGA display with dependable 5 wire touch screen and NVIS capable display. MRT can be hard mounted directly into a vehicle without the added costs of an vibration isolation kit.. MRT can accommodate a GPS system, a modem or an additional radio.

The system has been so far procured for US Army mortars fire control stations and intelligent munitions systems control stations, US MC Target Location Designation Hand off system (TLDH/Strikelink) project and USAF TACPs (Air Force Tactical Air Control Party) modernization programme.

German Krauss Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co KG has been awarded a contract by the Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung (BWB) procurement agency to deliver DINGO 2 highly protected vehicles to the German Army (Bundeswehr). The contract covers the supply of 41 vehicles before the end of 2010.

The fleet will be armed with the Krauss Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co KG made FLW-100 remotely controlled weapon station.

The all-terrain Mercedes Benz UNIMOG U5000 chassis of the DINGO 2 allows all vehicle configurations to reach a maximum speed of 90km/h and a cruising range of approximately 1000km. Furthermore, it can be deployed by the C-160 Transall, Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules and the EADS Airbus Military A400M tactical transport aircraft.

The 12.5 Tonnes DINGO 4×4 armoured vehicle is operated by Austria, Belgium, Germany, Luxemburg and the Czech Republic.
