French shipbuilder DCNS will start to built at Cherbourg yard on May 27 the first of four S-BR submarines ordered by the Brazilian Navy (Marinha do Brasil-MB). The first submarine is scheduled to be on operation during 2017 and the last during 2021.

The EUR 6.7 Billion programme called PROSUB (PROgrama de Desenvolvimento de SUBmarinos) includes the construction of a naval base and shipbuilding facilities at the Baía de Sepetiba in Itaguaí, south of Rio de Janeiro by Brazilian Construtora Norberto Odebrecht.

A nuclear powered submarine called SN-BR (Submarino Nuclear BRasileiro) to be delivered in 2024 will be also built with the technical expertise provided by DCNS regarding the hull development and construction.
