After serving faithfully for more than 40 years with German Luftwaffe, the C-160 Transall tactical transport aircraft is soon to be replaced by the much more capable Airbus Military A400M. The C-160 Transall and A400M met for the first time at the ILA Berlin airshow on 10 June. The Luftwaffe has 83 Transall aircraft in service which will be replaced by 60 A400Ms.

Each C-160 Transall can carry 16,000kg compared to the 37,000kg payload of the A400M. Along by Germany, C-160 is operated by France and Turkey.
