The French procurement agency DGA (Direction Générale de l’Armement) has received the 200th MU90 IMPACT Block 1 advanced lightweight torpedo to be delivered to the French Navy (Marine Nationale).

According a contract awarded by the DGA in December of 1997, EuroTorp, a joint venture consortium GEIE (Groupement Européen d’Intérêt Économique) formed by DCNS, Thales Underwater Systems and Whitehead Alenia Sistemi Subacquei SpA is delivering 500 torpedoes to the be operated by French (300) and Italian (200) navies.

With the French Navy, the torpedo can be launched from the F-70 Georges Leygues Class frigates frigates, Horizon Class frigates (D620 FS Forbin and D621 FS Chevalier Paul), Br1150 Atlantique 2 maritime patrol aircraft and Lynx helicopters.

Future means like the NH Industries NH-90 NFH (NATO Frigate Helicopter) helicopters and the 11 Aquitaine Class frigates FREMM (Frégates Européennes Multi-Missions) being built by DCNS will be fitted with the MU 90 torpedo.

The MU 90 has been so far procured by France, Italy, Poland, Germany, Denmark and Australia.
