The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence DE&S (Defence Equipment & Support) organization awarded Lockheed Martin a US$5.1 Million contract to supply additional Desert Hawk III mini unmanned aircraft vehicles by fall 2010 to the British Army.

The eight-pound Desert Hawk III system features an open architecture environment and consists of a light weight, hand-launched, ruggedized air vehicle, a portable ground station, a communications box and a remote viewing terminal.

Desert Hawk III improved payloads maximize target detection and recognition in the battlefield by providing 360-degree daytime and night time coverage in a common turret package.

Desert Hawk has a top cruise speed of 32 knots, an endurance time of 60 minutes, a maximum ceiling height of 11000 ft and an operational radius of 15 km. The system is operated by three personnel.
