The United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities and Russian Federation arms exporter Rosoboronexport signed a $74 Million contract to upgrade 135 Kurganmashzavod JSC BMP-3 tracked amphibious infantry fighting vehicles in service with the UAE Army said the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

At IDEX 2011 event held between February 20 and 24 in Abu Dhabi, Finland based company Patria Land Systems Oy has showed an AMV (Armoured Modular Vehicle) wheeled armoured vehicle equipped with the BMP-3 turret.

French company Nexter Systems which is represented in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) International Golden Group (IGG) has won a contract to deliver undisclosed quantities of its AZUR (Action en Zone Urbaine) modular protection kit to the UAE Army. The systems are to be fitted on Nexter Systems Leclerc battle tanks in the UAE Army service.

From 1994 to 2008, the UAE has received 388 battle tanks, 46 Leclerc based combat recovery vehicles and a pair of Leclerc based driver training tanks.

At IDEX 2011 event, the Portuguese company Empresa de Investigação e Desenvolvimento de Electrónica SA (EID) has unveiled a new version of its ICC-201 digital intercommunications system which has been selected to be installed on the 260 General Dynamics European Land Systems-Steyr GmbH PANDUR II wheeled armoured vehicles procured by the Portuguese MoD procurement agency to fit the Portuguese Army (240) and as well as the Portuguese Navy marine corps (20).

The new version called ICC-251 is a compact variant of the previous system featuring mostly the same functions but with a less size and weight and for a less price. The system allows the integration of up to three tactical radios and seven crew members and the transmission of voice and data. ICC-251 has active noise cancelation capability and wireless interfaces.

At IDEX 2011 event held between February 20 and 24 in Abu Dhabi, French Nexter Systems has showed a VBCI (Véhicule Blindé de Combat d’Infanterie) 8×8 armoured personnel carrier variant. The company is looking to sell the vehicle to the EAU (Emirates Arab Emirates) as well as to Spain and Canada.

The vehicle on display was equipped with FN Herstal SA DeFNder Medium remotely controlled weapon station, Optsys ViPer  observation system, GALIX smoke grenade launchers and 01dB-Metravib PILAR MK-IIw gunshot detection and localisation system.

FN Herstal SA DeFNder Medium weapon station was equipped with the FN Herstal SA M3P 12.7mm heavy machine gun and a CCD/IR sight from FLIR Systems AB.

The Belgium based company propose as well the Light which can be armed with a MAG 7.62mm light machine gun, a MINIMI 7.62mm light machine gun or a MINIMI 5.56mm light machine gun and couplet to CCD or LLCCD sight modules.

 

 

 

 

During the current week, the Portuguese Navy (Marinha Portuguesa) has completed the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) of the first two General Dynamics European Land Systems-Steyr GmbH PANDUR II 8×8 amphibian armoured vehicles at Fabrequipa-Sociedade Industrial de Equipamentos Rodoviário Lda facilities. Both vehicles are to be received in the second semester of 2011.

Portuguese Navy Fuzileiros are to receive 20 vehicles designed VBLA (Veículo Blindado Ligeiro Anfíbio) in five configurations including eight personnel carriers equipped with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun, five personnel carriers equipped with a 40mm automatic grenade launcher, three command post vehicles, two120mm mortar carriers and two reconnaissance vehicles.

Deliveries are to be completed in 2012. The Portuguese Army (Exército Português) is receiving 240 vehicles in eleven different variants.

At IDEX 2011 international event held in Abu Dhabi from February 20 to 24, Chinese company China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) has unveiled a new truck mounted self-propelled artillery system called SH1.

The 22.5 Tonnes weapon system consists of a 155 mm/52 calibre gun mounted on the rear of a 6×6 tactical armoured truck chassis. SH1 has a cruising range of 600 km, a top speed of 90 km/h and is manned by a crew of six. The gun has a maximum firing range of 52 km.

Along the SH1, NORINCO is marketing a complete family of 6×6 truck mounted self-propelled artillery systems including the 11.5 Tonnes SH2 122mm and the 11.5 Tonnes SH4 105mm/37 calibre systems.

Eurofighter GmbH has presented at IDEX 2011 event a new version of its Typhoon combat aircraft sold to Saudi Arabia, Italy, Austria, Spain, United Kingdom and Germany.

The aircraft called Typhoon 2020 is equipped with conformal fuel tanks, the EScan radar, thirst vectoring engines and have the capability to launch tactical ballistic missiles, long range stand-off missiles and as well as the MBDA METEOR air-to-air missile.
