Four years after launching its self-funded development of MPCV (Multi Purpose Combat Vehicle) short range air defence weapon system, the European missile house MBDA (jointly owned by BAE Systems, EADS and Finmeccanica) has signed a contract with an export customer, for whom the company will be integrating the turrets, missile launchers and firing controls onto the weeled high mobility armoured vehicles chosen by the user. The customer could be the UAE (United Arab Emirates).

The new MPCVs will be integrated within the customer existing air defence network which is based on MBDA MISTRAL short range surface to air missiles.

MPCV air defence system includes two twin MBDA MISTRAL 2 surface to air missiles launchers, a Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH SEOSS (Stabilized Electro-Optical Sighting System) electro-optical/infra-red sight and a FN Herstal SA M3P 12.7mm heavy machine gun.

A anti-tank configuration of MPCV is available. This configuration include two twin MBDA MILAN ER (Extended Range) anti-tank missiles launchers, a remotely controlled weapon station or the 12.7mm heavy machine gun and as well as the stabilized sight.
