On next March 29, the Portuguese Navy (Marinha Portuguesa) F330 NRP “Vasco da Gama” frigate will leave Portugal to integrate the European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) which will be part of the multi-national Operation ATALANTA in the coast of Somalia.

On April 14, the Portuguese MEKO 200PN Mod III multi-purpose vessels will start its operational activity as the flagship vessel under the command of a Spanish Navy officer.

EUNAVFOR will be carry several missions including the surveillance of fishing activities, support the AMISOM (African Union Mission in Somalia) contingent, protect vessels of the WFP (World Food Program) and the combat of piracy activities.
