During a patrol mission over Libya, a French Air Force (Armée de l´Air) Dassault Aviation Rafale combat aircraft has destroyed a Libyan Air Force G-2 Galeb single-engine ground attack aircraft.

When landing, the light attack aircraft has been detected by an E-3 airborne early warning and control aircraft and destroyed by the French combat aircraft with an AASM (Armement Air Sol Modulaire) precision air-to-ground guided weapons.

AASM which is manufactured by French company Sagem SA comprises the AASM-125 and the AASM-250 variants.

The AASM can be fired using targeting coordinates programmed on the ground, as well as programming or reprogramming in flight using coordinates supplied by deployed sensors. The infrared imager enables the AASM to correct its terminal trajectory just a few seconds before impact to provide outstanding target accuracy.
